CLAUDE MONET ARRIVES IN MADRID AT CENTROCENTRO

The first mayor exhibition in Madrid dedicated to the French painter Claude Monet, the father of Impressionism will be hosted by The CentroCentro cultural space from September 21th, 2023 to February 25th, 2024.

CentroCentro, the exhibition hall of the Madrid City Hall, hosts from September 21th, 2023 to February 25th, 2024 the spectacular Monet exhibition with more than 50 artworks by the french painter lended directly from the Marmottan Museum in Paris. This exhibition is very special, this is the first show dedicated to Monet in Madrid and it is almost like a whole museum. Displays more than 50 works from the Musée Marmottan in Paris and the exhibition traces the artistic career of the Impressionist master through the works he was most attached to, the ones he kept until the time of his death at his home in Giverny.

Claude-Oscar Monet (Paris, November 14, 1840 - Giverny, December 5, 1926) is considered one of the founders of French Impressionism, in fact, the name of the artistic movement is linked to one of his works, Impression, rising sun from 1872. Within the movement, he is undoubtedly the most consistent and prolific exponent. The philosophy that can be seen in his famous series of paintings, is to portray nature as it is, always changing.

The exhibition, is organized by CentroCentro and Arthemisia, an Italian company in charge of the organization, in collaboration with the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris. The exhibition counts on Sylvie Carlier, general curator and head art restorer of the Musée Marmottan Monet, and also the participation of the co-curators Marianne Mathieu and Aurélie Gavoille, assistant curator of the Musée Marmottan Monet, the writers and creators of the exhibition discourse of the selection of works that form the show.

Among the works on display are exceptional paintings such as Portrait of Michel Monet with a Pompom Hat (1880), The Train in the Snow. The locomotive (1875) or London. The Parliament. Reflections on the Thames (1905), along with large format paintings such as his captivating and celebrated Water Lilies (1917-1920) and his evanescent Wisteria (1919-1920). All of them come from the Musée Marmottan Monet, which houses the most important collection of the artist's works, the result of a donation made by his son Michel in 1966.
