Filipino collector Timothy Tan is banking on both international and local emerging artists, but above all, on awakening the interest in art among young people
Magnetic and brightly colored works by emerging international artists are part of the impressive collection of Philippine businessman Timothy Tan.
It all started with a print by Murakami, it was 2012 and the collector was on a trip for his work as an interior designer in Singapore, walking through Marina Bay Sands he saw the work and fell in love so much that the following days he kept thinking about it, so he went back to buy it and began his introduction to the world of international contemporary art.
Timothy Tan's current focus is on emerging international artists, especially highlighting Coco Young, Bambou Gili, and Sarah Kim
Timothy Tan's current focus is on emerging international artists, especially highlighting Coco Young, Bambou Gili, and Sarah Kim. This does not detract from his appreciation for local artists, which will never cease to be at the heart of his devotion to art.
"Collecting art has given me a deeper understanding of myself and the world around me..." - Timothy Tan
The collector spoke to Larry's List about the reason for the exhibition in which he will showcase his collection "Collecting art has given me a deeper understanding of myself and the world around me, I hope to engage the young minds of today, to spark their curiosity and broaden their imagination. I hope to share this part of my journey with the younger generation. And also because I hope - in one way or another - to celebrate the uniqueness and talent of each of the artists I support".
