The book, which includes de Waal's text "Twelve Leaves" was published in September 2022 and consists of a study of leaves in their stage of transformation, when they have lost all color and look more like parchment than a plant, forming incomparable figures, becoming unique.

Many of these photographs were taken at the beginning of the pandemic, when the television was only talking about increased deaths and infections. Although he does not consider it as a direct response, the situation had a profound influence on the way McBeath began to look at leaves.

The text that accompanies these photographs: "Twelve Leaves" by Edmund de Waal, is essentially an autobiography and a diary, the unprecedented and moving response of the artist to living with these images during several months of solitary confinement. "Perdendosi" offers us a new perspective about the familiar, charged with awareness and sensitivity to the world of nature.
